Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan held an enlarged meeting with the employees of the Department of Nature Protection and with the persons in charge of landscaping companies. During the meeting the reports on the work done in 2015 were presented. Generally evaluating the activities carried out in 2015 as positive the Mayor made some remarks.
«Townspeople always complain that there are few green zones in Yerevan and they are certainly right. All of us want the green areas to be expanded. We see that our co-citizens with great pleasure visit the new well-arranged parks formed in recent years. It's necessary to work out and implement new projects of green zones and parks formation. It's vital indeed», said the Mayor.
Taron Margaryan also noted that the society should be informed in advance about every project to be realized in the sphere of nature protection. Beside, the notification must be professionally justified.
«Large-scale work has been carried out inn recent years in the direction of expansion of green zones and irrigation networks. Is the public informed enough about it? Why isn't the work done highlighted in mass media? For example, if it is explained in time that sanitary pruning or implementation of this or that work is necessary, I am sure there won't be useless talks. Why wait till people will start criticizing you and then begin justifying yourselves? Change your work style. Present all the projects we implement», stressed the Mayor.
During the meeting the Mayor once again referred to illegal felling.
«Some people seem not to understand that illegal tree felling is unacceptable and blameworthy. Remind people more frequently of the responsibility applied for illegal tree felling. No justification can be found for it. Urban development projects can't be implemented in green areas. I expect your firm and consistent approach in struggling with such cases. Take measures so that new trees will be planted instead of cut down ones», said Taron Margaryan.
The Mayor also instructed to go on the cooperation with interested establishments and NGOs providing regular information of public about the programs implemented by Yerevan Municipality.
