The 9th festival-competition of the municipal music and art schools started in Aram Khachatryan house-museum. The young musicians will compete in 9 nominations: piano, string instruments, percussion, brass instruments, folk instruments, solo singing, choir, classical ensembles, solfeggio-dictations and musical literature.

Yerevan Mayor's Assistant Maria Baraghamyan, the head of Municipality Culture and Tourism Department Ruben Hovhannisyan were present at the opening ceremony. The latter congratulating al the participants stressed the importance of the competition and wished them good luck.

On the first day competed 50 pupils of string instruments department. the professional jury consisted of eminent musicians and music critics. 2 pupils from each of the 25 municipal music schools participated in instrumental nominations.The festival will last till May 23. 10 schools achieved the best results will get special prizes from Yerevan Municipality at the gala-concert.

This year the festival for the first time will include non-competitive nomination «Soloists» the best performers in which will get the opportunity to perform together with the Armenian State Youth Orchestra at Aram Khachatryan concert hall on July 9.
